What was once a mere creek has now become a wide river-like body of water that dis-sects the emirate. The Creek, as it's still called, is a definite focal point in town with tiny passenger boats crisscrossing from one shore to the other and traditional teak-built dhows often two or three deep on the piers, unloading their cargo from nearby Africa and Asia and other gulf ports.
