Alexandria

 Alexandria | Aswan | Hurghada | Luxor | Red Sea | Sinai

Egypt's second largest city, Alexandria seems more of a Mediterranean town than a Middle eastern one. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 B.C., it Pharaohs lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, once stood. Mark Antony and Cleopatra played out there passionate romance in the setting of Alexandria, a city of learning in ancient world. When Napoleon arrived on Alexandria's shores, he found little more than a fishing hamlet. But generations of immigrants from Greece, Italy and the settled here in the 19th century and made of Alexandria a bustling cosmopolitan city, the capital city of Asiatic Europe, if such a thing could exist, said Lawrence Durrell.

Aswan

 Alexandria | Aswan | Hurghada | Luxor | Red Sea | Sinai

Egypt's southern city, Aswan has a distinctly African feel about it in this region of fabled Nubia. On the banks of the Nile, it's easy to stroll the town, visiting its principal sights and bazaar. Since the 19th century, Aswan has been a favorite winter destination.
Nubian entertainment takes place in the cultural center evenings. During the day, visit Elephantine Island and its gardens and ancient temples.
