Nice, Cannes, St Tropez, Antibes, Juan-Les-Pins - the very names epitomize the best
in European holidays. The sandy beaches, palm-lined sea fronts, sophisticated dining
and entertainment, fine hotels and excellent shopping have long attracted the world's
wealthy and famous to the chic resorts along France'sMediterranean shore. And,
should you tire of the coast, inland the Provencal countryside - luminous with the
colours that inspired Renoir and Cezanne - offers a landscape of olive groves and
pine woods, entrancing villages scented with mimosa, craggy gorges and fields bright
with sunflowers.
The Cote d'Azur is well linked to other parts of the country by road, rail and air,
making it easy to combine a beach holiday with a visit to Paris - the best of both
worlds. Paris is just an hour or so away by air.
Nice is a beautiful city - it's winding streets and traditional café's of the old twon are
complemented by the handsome boulevards and modern hotels of the new. Whilst the
beach, museums, festivals and thriving night-life provide plenty to keep visitors
occupied, the city is also a convenient base for exploring other parts of Provence -
perhaps to the Gorge du Ciams or the beautiful Vesubie Valley with its spectacular
scenery.
