Just an hour's drive north of Cairns, Port Douglas has become a favorite holiday destination for discerning travelers from the world over. It has easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and the magnificent tropical rainforest of Mosman, Daintree and Cape Tribulation. Port Douglas is the closest mainland point to the Reef, the largest living organism on earth. Made up of over 2,800 individuals reefs, it is approximately 2,000 kilometers long and covers the area half the size of Texas. It is home to a huge diversity of life forms including 400 types of hard and soft corals, 4,000 different mollusks, 1,500 species of fish and countless sponges, worms, crustaceans, starfish, sea urchins and other animals.
