Kaula Lumpur- fondly known as "KL" - is an intriguing blend of different cultures, styles and times: a distinctly Malay city, but one with an extensive China town. It is a rapidly developing modern city with high-rise buildings and freeways, but where the old colonial architecture may still be seen. The mosques, temples churches and shrines testify to a muti-cultural society.
Founded just 130 years ago, initially as a center of the tin industry, Kaula Lumpur, with a population of over one million, is now Malaysia's largest city and the country's business and political capital.
Our recommended sightseeing includes a half-day City Tour, an ideal introduction to Kaula Lumpur which shows you fine examples of colonial architecture, the new central business district, the Merdeka and Negara Stadium, the King's Palace, Parliament House, the famous Petronas Towers and the magnificent Hollywood-Moorish railway station. You will also visit Chinatown, the Jame Mosque and the National Museum with its superb displays of Malaysian culture and history.
Our half-day countryside Tour takes you out of the city center past Malay "Kampongs" (villages) built on stilts to the Royal Selangor Pewter Factory, where you see craftsmen fashioning the soft metal. You will also visit a batik center before driving on to the cathedral-like Batu Caves, focal point of the Hindu Thai Ponggal festival, which contains a jewel-encrusted image of Lord Subramaniam.
For a break from the heat of the city, our full-day Genting Highlands tour takes you 2,000 metres up to this cool hill station. Cable car rides, boating on the lake and fun drives on bumper cars are just a few of the attractions that supplement the tables of the Genting Casino.
