Indonesia's capital, Jakarta , is sprawling cosmopolitan city where the modern and the tradirional meet head on > There are fine museum and superb examples of colonial archirecture, traditional marketplaces as well as plethora of antique shops, shopping malls, restaurants and discotheques.

Puncak
Forming part of the towering volcanic massif south of Bogor, puncak meaning "summit" is a cool air resort offeringoutstanding views of dense rainforest and manicured tea plantations' trekking, horseback riding hot springs and a Safari park. On the way topuncak, Just 60 km south of Jakarta, the town of bogor has grown around an 18 th century resort called Buitenzorg ( "Free of Cares").
Descending to the south of puncak are the resorts of Cibodas, with a branch of the bogor botanical garden ( Kebun Raya ), and Cipanas where yoy'll find hot mineral springs, the presidential summer palace, and Taman Bunga Nusantara, Indonesia's first flower display garden.


Bandung
Wide, tree lined streets, distinctive period architecture and an abundance of parks make Bandung, the city of fiowers, the perfect place to explore on foot . Bandung has forged a reputation as shopping mecca, particularly among Jakartans, with crowds flocking to the west Java capiral on weekends to snare a fawbargains. To the north o the city is Bandung's Institute of Technology ( ITB ) . the oldest and most prestigious technical university in the country. For a great view of the city, head up to the Dago Tea House, where you can enjoy excellent Sundanese and Western food while reclining in traditional Sundanese saungs ( thatch roofed pavilions ). A great place to watch the sun set.


Surabaya
East Java's vibrant capital, Surabaya, is a wonderful place to explore. Wandering the narrow lanes of the old Chinese and Arab quarters will make you feel as though you're walking into the pages of Joseph Conrad novel. Surabaya is a metropolitan second to Jakarta remains preserving its traditional Javanese identity.
Head for Kalimas, Surabaya's old harbour to the colourful Bugis schoonersn or pinisi, which have sailed the seas of Indonesia for hundreds of years . Other Surabaya attrctions are the well'stocked zoo, the Mpu Tantular Museum and the many shopping plazas, where you'll find an exciting array of batik, embroidered needlework, basketry,paintings and ceramics.


Bali
Bali has become synonymous with all that is beautiful and exotic, for rali is a beautiful island of palm fringed beaches, coral ringed lagoons and soaring volcanoes, inhabited by beautiful people with a unique tradition of music, dance, painting , sculpture, architecture, drama and poetry.
Despit its popularity with the rich and famous, Bali remains a land of surprises where ypu canstill relax and unwind in the seaside sophistication of Sanur, or trek into the lush highlands of kintamani, stopping by the villages of ubud and Mas ( the spots to buy traditional Balinese art and carvings ) on the way.
For sports enthusiasts there are golf, tennis,great surfing, wind surfing and snorkeling while divers find thrills in the crystal clear waters of Tulamben. You may also be lucky enough to see the ritual trance in which enchanted nymphs chase away evil spirits It's just another heavenly experience on the paradise Island of Bali .


Lombok
East of Bali lies a vast chain of rugged islands called Nusa Tenggara whose five main islands are Lombok, Sumbawa, sumba , Flores and Timor. Lombok retains all its pristine and features some of the most spectacular geology on the planet. For an unforgettable experirnce catch the sunrise at the puri Mayura Royal Gardens as the sea of water lilies unfolds. And make a point of visiting the stunning Sindenggile waterfall.


Somatra
You can besure of a warm welcome when you follow the lead Sumatra. The fifth larges island in the world has an incredibly diverse range of peoples and cultures. Vibrant bustling cities are cheek by jowl with vast impenetrable jungles, advanced technology exists side by side with primitive lifestyles.
In Sumatra you'll also be following in the footsteps of Marco polo who stopped over in Aceh, the socalled "Mecca's front veranda", at the north western end of Sumatra during his journey from China to Persia. The name reflects the Islamic culture and religion that were brought here in the 13th century.
Or try a raft safari down the dramatic Alas River in the heavily foreste Karo Highlands, or a trek into the Mount Leuser National park for a closer look at the amazing wildlife.


Kalimantan
The Indonesian two thirds of what was originally known as borneo, Kalimantan, is one of the largest and most mysterious islad in the world . The only place on you'll find freshwater dolphins ( Mahakam River ) along wirh an exceptional variety of monkeys and apes, including the rare proboscis monkey . Many of the ancient Dayak crafts persist.
Finely woven baskers and mars can e founf in the markers and Dayak beadwork is. Orher points of interest are the diamonds digging at Cempaka , the foating market at banjarmasin , and the rare fauna and flora of the Kutai National Park.


Sulawesi
The fabled island of sulawesi is shaped like a tropical; each "petal" a peninsula ridged wirt lofty mountains and surrounded by coral reefs. Sulawesi is a delightful potpourri of people and cultures ranging form the mysterious Toraja , who live in the mountainous center of the sulawesi "orchid", to the friendly folk of the lush northern region of Manado Minahasa.
The intriguing Bugis and Makasarese people from peninsular sourh sulawesi are the sruff of legend .


Maluku & Irian Jaya
A vast scattering of tiny islands in a tempestuous volcanic "Ring of fire" the Maluku or "Molluccas" Islands are a fascinating destination for trvellers in sarch of the unusual. Key islands are Ambon, the tiny islands of Ternate, and the Banda Islads.
