Mumbai

Goa | Delhi

Mumbai , once just a small island in a wilderness of mud banks, is today Indian s cultural and commercial center . This bustling city possesse the nation s largest natural harbour, Asia s largest stock exchange and the world s most prolfic film indstry . People from all over the country have flocked to this busy metropolis, bringing with them a confusion of cultures, customs, cuisine, traditions and language- making Mumbai India s most vibrant and cosmopolitan city .
There is much to see and do , varying from the enormous collection of 17th and 18th century art (the Moghul section is particularly impressive) in the Prince of Wales Museum to the Hanging Gardens on Malabar Hill a green oasis amidst the skyscrapers.
The Gateway of India , an imposing monument build in 1911, has come to symbolise the city itself .
Victoria Terminus, the city s main railway station , is one of the finest examples of high Victorian Gothic architecture anywhere in the world .
Mumbai is well known for offering excellent shopping . Clothing, fabrics, leather goods, linen, bric-a-brac, brassware, antiques and curios, jewellery, handicrafts and prints of Indian in art may be found in markets and shops throughout the city .Some of the best shopping area are Colaba Causeway, Crawford Market, Zaveri Bazaar and Chor Bazaar .
Our recommended sightssing tours include the Mumbai City Tour which takes you to the Gateway of India , Prince of Wales Museum, Jehangir Art Gallery and provides spectacular views of the famous "Queen s necklace" on the seafront. Visit the Elephanta Caves on Gharpuri Island, a 10-kilometre boat ride across Mumbai s busy harbour. Here, carved from solid rock , are 1,400 years -old temples and figuringes- the most impressive being the Trimurti with the three- headed bust of Lord Shiva vividly depicting his role as creator, preserver and destroyer. We also recommended the full-day tour to the Kanheri Caves where , in more than 100 caverns hewn out of a hillside, early examples of Buddhist rock carving dating back nearly tow millennia may be found .
