THE CITY OF GOLD
Johannesburg with a population of around two million is known by the locals simply as "e'Goli" - the City of Gold. The small mining town, founded in 1886 as a result of prospector George Harrison's discovery of one of the richest reefs in the world, has now grown to be the financial and industrial capital of South Africa.
Our recommended sightseeing includes the Johannesburg Cit, Tour, vesting the stock Exchange, De Beers Diamond Corporation, George Harrison Park (where gold was first discovered), the universities and the residential suburbs.
